It’s Fiction Friday! Let’s Talk…Victoria Aveyard’s Red Queen series – or rather her multimillion copy bestselling Red Queen series. In honour of her release of Realm Breaker, the first in Victoria’s new series, her original debut has been selected as the first Fiction Friday post. So, let’s talk about the Number 1 New York Times Bestseller.

“All hail Victoria Aveyard – the new Queen of dystopian fiction.” The Guardian Children’s Books

Synopsis

“Power is a dangerous game”

This is a world divided by blood – Red or Silver.

The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to seventeen-year-old Mare, a Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.

But Mare possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.

Fearful of her potential, the Silvers hide Mare in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess. Knowing that one false move will mean her death, Mare must use her new position to bring down the regime – from the inside.

Now Mare has entered a game of betrayal and lies.

This is Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart…

My Review

This series ticks every YA Fantasy box, the magical world-building, the high stakes and the introduction of ships that will either sink or swim, but Victoria Aveyard has managed to both satisfy and surprise readers. She has taken readers’ expectations and surpassed them with thrilling plot twists and betrayals you cannot see coming. Writing a YA Fantasy series can be tricky when dealing with originality, pace and believability. Red Queen is a fantastic first of the series, and you certainly will want to delve in deep into the world she has created.

“If you know someone’s fear, you know them.” Victoria Aveyard, Red Queen
